How to Apply the Magsafe Ring to Phones and Cases

For phones and cases without MagSafe compatibility, Bookcase includes a MagSafe ring that you can attach to your device. If you have a non-MagSafe phone case and prefer to use it with Bookcase, please apply the MagSafe ring to the case rather than directly to the phone.

Caution: If you apply the ring directly to the phone and then put a non-MagSafe case over it, the MagSafe functionality will likely fail.

Which Materials Are Compatible With the Magsafe Ring?

The provided MagSafe ring won't adhere to every material. Before attempting installation, ensure your phone or phone case has a compatible surface.

Recommended Compatible Materials

These are the materials that the MagSafe ring can adhere to with low risk of damaging the surface of the phone or case when removed.

  • Hard plastics: Most hard plastic cases are compatible. Ensure the area where you install the MagSafe ring is smooth, hard plastic with no spots or lines of other materials like silicone or leather.
  • Aluminum metal: Many phones have bodies made of aluminum alloy. If you're applying the ring directly to your phone and its back is metal, ensure it's aluminum.
  • Polished glass: Most flagship phones from Apple and Android manufacturers have glass backs for wireless charging. This usually means MagSafe is built into the design. In the rare cases where it isn't, the ring will adhere to this surface.

Compatible Materials

The MagSafe ring can adhere to these materials, but may damage the finish if removed.

  • Wood: The MagSafe ring will likely adhere best to a polished wood surface.
  • Leather & Synthetic Leather: Both types are adherable for the MagSage ring, but this is the surface type that is most likely to peel or stain if you decide to remove the MagSafe ring from it.
  • Frosted Glass

Incompatible Materials

We do not recommend attempting to apply the MagSafe ring to these materials.

  • Silicone: The MagSafe ring will not reliably adhere to any silicone material, which is a common material used in Otterbox cases. Please ensure you have a hard plastic outer shell if you have a silicone case.

What's Included in Your MagSafe Kit?

  • 1 MagSafe Ring
  • 2 Wipes: One wet wipe and one dry wipe
  • 2 Guide Stickers
  • 1 Dust-absorbing sticker
  • 1 Ruler
  • 1 Clear Round Sticker

How to apply the MagSafe Ring

  1. Clean the back of your phone or phone case using the cleaning kit.
    • Wipe down the back of your phone or phone case with the wet wipe labeled with a 1.
    • Dry the surface with the dry wipe labeled with a 2.
  2. Use the included ruler to find the center of your phone. Mark the center of your phone with the included guide stickers, if necessary.
  3. Use the dust absorbing sticker to ensure the surface the ring will adhere to is free of dust particles. A clean surface free of particles like dust and hair will ensure the strongest adhesion.
  4. Peel the backing off of the MagSafe ring and apply it to the center of your phone or phone case. If needed, be sure to reference your guide stickers when doing so to ensure the ring is perfectly centered!
If you want the MagSafe ring to be more of a temporary solution, you can use the clear round sticker included, as it has less adhesion than the MagSafe ring. Place the sticker on your phone or case, then place the MagSafe ring on top of it.
