Using Luna Display in Clamshell Mode
Using Clamshell Mode with Luna Display
Clamshell Mode lets you keep your MacBook’s lid closed while using Luna Display. This way, you can use your MacBook with an external display, like a secondary Mac or iPad, without the built-in screen taking up space.
Requirements for Clamshell Mode
- Connect your MacBook to power via a charging cable. Your Mac needs to be plugged in to stay on when the lid is closed.
- If using an external display (other than Luna), it must be connected and active.
Adjust Sleep Settings (macOS Ventura and Later)
To prevent your MacBook from going to sleep when the lid is closed, adjust these settings:
- Go to System Settings.
- Select Battery.
- Click Options at the bottom right.
- Turn on “Prevent automatic sleeping on power adapter when the display is off”.
Adjust Sleep Settings (macOS Monterey and Earlier)
- Go to System Preferences > Battery.
- Select Battery and Power Adapter from the sidebar.
- For both, set "Turn display off after" to Never.
Using Luna Display with Clamshell Mode
- Connect your MacBook to power via a charging cable.
- Launch Luna Display on both devices.
- Close the lid of your MacBook. Luna will keep running and display on the secondary device.
