4K and 5K Support for iMacs as Secondary Displays

Luna Display now supports 4K and 5K resolutions on iMacs used as secondary displays when paired with a USB-C Luna unit.

By default, Luna will choose the best resolution for your setup, but you can manually adjust resolution and refresh rate in Luna Display's Preferences panel.

Supported Resolutions

PC

  • 5K at 30Hz
  • 4K at 60Hz

Mac (macOS Big Sur required for 5K)

  • 5K at 45Hz
  • 5K at 30Hz
  • 4K at 60Hz

Note: Luna Display currently supports refresh rates up to 60Hz. Support for higher refresh rates may be added in the future, but we do not have a timeline to share just yet.

How to Manually Adjust Resolution and Refresh Rate

To manually change resolution settings, open Luna Display Preferences and switch from Automatic to 4K or 5K depending on your needs.

You can also set your desired Refresh Rate. Choose between 30Hz, 45Hz, or 60Hz depending on your device's capabilities.

If you're using Computer-to-iPad mode and experiencing blur, try lowering your refresh rate or switching off Retina resolution depending on what your computer supports.

Tip: If your secondary display looks blurry and your computer supports it, enabling Retina mode may help improve clarity.
